# Connect thinlinc client in different network

While trying to connect to the server in the thinlinc client whilst been in the same network (using the IP I get from doing “ifconfig” on the server) it goes smoothly. But when I am on a different network and I put in my public IP as the IP for the server (for example the one you’d get if you go into [whatsmyip.com](http://whatsmyip.com)) it does not seem to able to find it, I tried pinging the same IP but with no success.  
Sorry if this is a so called "newbie’ question.
