Any idea why the TL client is soo small? I can hardly read it because it’s so small, and the server connection is ridiculous. How can can choose a sensible resolution?

The short answer is that the ThinLinc client currently lacks support for high DPI screens. See:
The good news is that we are currently working on a migration to a new client toolkit (Qt), which will better support high DPI. So watch this space 
In the mean time, if the GUI is difficult to use, perhaps one option could be to launch the client using command line flags instead, and avoid the GUI altogether. See the following documentation for details (especially the -p and -P parameters):
