ThinLinc at the Raspberry Pi Product Expo 2026 – this time, the Pi is the server

Hi everyone,

Tomorrow, 13th October, @jeanz and I (@samuel) will be at the Raspberry Pi Product Expo at De Vere Beaumont Estate in Windsor.

Last year we brought a Raspberry Pi 500 running the ThinLinc client. A Pi still makes a great thin client, and plenty of you use it that way. Two examples are the Italian school project and @j.maus’s thinRoot, which PXE boots Pis straight into RAM.

This year we’re bringing the server side. ThinLinc 4.21 has an ARM64 beta on the regular download page, and it runs on a Raspberry Pi 5. At the stand, a Pi 5 will serve separate desktop sessions to my laptop and my phone at the same time. A Pi 5 is no big server, of course, but for a few users on a lightweight desktop it works well. There’s more in the ARM64 thread, and thanks to everyone who has tested it there.

If you’re at the Expo, stop by and say hello. And if you run ThinLinc on a Pi, as client or server, feel free to tell us about it here.

/Samuel

Thanks to everyone who stopped by our stand in Windsor! Here’s the demo in action, the Raspberry Pi 5 is the ThinLinc server, and the laptop and phone each run a separate session on it at the same time.

If you want to try it yourself, the ARM64 beta is on the regular download page. Let us know how it goes.
