Behind the scenes: Qt as the new framework for ThinLinc client

As a peek in to what is in store for the future of ThinLinc, we have recently announced our cooperation with Qt to upgrade the base framework of the ThinLinc client. You can read more about this project on Qt’s web page.

What this means for you

Qt is a framework for creating graphical applications. It will replace our existing framework called FLTK. Compared to FLTK, Qt is a much larger and more capable framework. This will give us the tools to develop new features, and provide a better user experience in the ThinLinc client.

What happens next

We are working hard to integrate the code that Qt has developed for us. The focus at this point is the switch of framework, not any specific user visible improvements. Hopefully, there will still be some things that will get better just because of the improved platform. We’ll know more once that work is nearing completion.

Once we have that first Qt-based version of the ThinLinc client, then we can start planning what new features we can develop, and when.

When can I try this?

There is still a lot of work left to be done, so we have no firm date to share. Barring any unforeseen obstacles, the goal is to have a first version out next year. Preview versions may be available before then.

Stay tuned!

We are very excited about what possibilities this change opens up. We will keep you informed as we progress with the integration and share updates on any new features that may arise from this change.
Thank you for your continued support and patience as we work on these advancements.
